ANDREW CATTELL
Andrew Cattell is a nonprofit development consultant and co-founder of A3 Empowers. Since launching A3 Empowers in March 2025, he has partnered with more than 15 nonprofits and fiscally sponsored groups across the Bay Area. During that time he has helped organizations secure government contracts, foundation grants, and build the fundraising infrastructure they need to grow sustainably. He works directly with Executive Directors and Boards on annual fundraising plans, grant writing, and long-term development strategy.
Before founding A3, Andrew spent a decade in nonprofit development, including roles at YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley and United Policyholders. He holds a Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of San Francisco and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
Outside of work, Andrew can usually be found on a trail with co-founder Amanda Preston and their dog Aya, writing short stories, and supporting community health and wellness.

AMANDA PRESTON
Amanda Preston brings over 12 years of experience in education, nonprofit leadership, and organizational development. Her eclectic career reflects a deep commitment to empowering communities, building partnerships, facilitating meaningful dialogue, and developing creative organizational systems that drive positive social impact…
Amanda’s journey began almost a decade working in k-5 education both in public schools and nonprofit after school providers in San Francisco and Sacramento. Recognizing her passion for broader social change, she transitioned into the nonprofit sector, where she has worked with SF CARD and NAMI Marin. Amanda has served as a consultant with Christina Nicholson Consulting, and successfully completed a six month contract position with YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley. She is certified in Training and Facilitation and Business Continuity Planning, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Sacramento State University, and a Master’s Degree in Teaching from the University of San Francisco.
When not working to make the world a better place, Amanda enjoys exploring Mount Tamalpais with her partner and their senior dog, experimenting with fresh local ingredients in the kitchen, and diving into science fiction novels.
The A3 Story
A3 was founded by Andrew Cattell and Amanda Preston, inspired by the small-town values of West Marin where they grew up. Those roots shaped a belief that strong communities—and strong organizations—are built on trust, collaboration, and the ability to focus on what matters most.
At A3, our work is guided by these principles:
- Organizations thrive when leaders can focus their energy on what they do best.
- Every team has unique strengths and areas where outside support can unlock new potential.
- Authentic, transparent relationships create the foundation for sustainable growth.
- Collaboration turns individual efforts into lasting community impact.
These lessons drive our commitment to helping nonprofits, entrepreneurs, and grassroots groups strengthen their capacity, grow their impact, and achieve their vision for change.
